Australia: ACMA Opens Public Consultation on 2 GHz MSS Band

On 9 July 2025, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) launched a public consultation regarding the allocation design and technical parameters for the 2 GHz Mobile-Satellite Service (MSS) frequency band.

This consultation aims to collect stakeholder feedback to help define the regulatory framework for MSS use in Australia, including spectrum allocation, licensing models, and applicable technical requirements.

Key Regulatory Highlights:

    • Focuses on the allocation strategy and technical rules for the 1980–2010 MHz uplink and 2170–2200 MHz downlink MSS bands.
    • Intended to support satellite communications services across Australia.
